Recipe Of The Week – Cabbage Vegetable Soup With Sausages!

 

A recipe for healthy-minded English students who may be worked about their form, figure, or fitness routine during this coronavirus pandemic lockdown season. The required ingredients are quite simple and can usually be picked up at your local grocery store or supermarket. If you are trying to watch your weight while staying healthy and in tip-top condition while at home, then this soup is for you!

The hot broth from this soup is also a very good immunity booster during cold and flu season so it is sure to keep you warm and full when the weather turns cold.

Ingredients List

The ingredients required for this recipe are listed below. You`ll need the following:

* 1/2 large green cabbage
* 1 large carrot
* 1 large onion
* 4 large potatoes (Optional. Use these if you want a heavier meal.)
* Olive Oil
* 6 – 8 pork sausages

* 3 ~ 4 blocks of chicken stock (consome/コンソメ)
* Garlic Powder
* Salt 
* Black Pepper

You can add additional spices if you like, but these are basically all that you`ll need to get started.

Cooking Steps:

Step #1: 

Cut the onion in half and then slice it as per the picture above.

Step #2: 

Put the sliced onions into a large boiler of water. The boiler should be about 3/4 full of water.

Step #3: 

Wash the potatoes, carrots, and cabbage. Dice the potatoes and carrots into small pieces. Cut the cabbage into larger blocks that will easily fit into the boiler of water.

Step #4: 

Slice the sausages into smaller portions (optional).

Step #5: 

Place the cabbage, carrots, potatoes, and sausage in the boiler with the onions.

Step #6: 

Pour about 2 ~ 3 tablespoons of virgin extract olive oil over the sausage and vegetables.

Step #7: 

Add your salt, pepper, basil, and garlic powder to the soup mix. Season to taste and stir.

 

Step #8: 

Add your 3 ~ 4 cubes of chicken stock to the soup mix.

 

Step #9: 

Boil the soup on medium-high heat for about 20 minutes or until the carrots (and potatoes if you added them) are soft.

 

Step #10:

Meal Pairing Recommendations:

Since this is a hot dish that can be a complete meal in itself (especially if you added potatoes) I would recommend serving it with fresh-cut french bread or bread rolls!

The soup only includes a little meat, so you could also pair it as an appetizer for a heavier meat dish such as steak or pork chops! And as usual… it always matches very well with red wine or beer!

This is a very delicious meal for a late evening and serves aound 4 ~ 5 people so have fun cooking for your family! ?
